A
Accumulation
System that stores the thermal energy produced by the heating equipment and releases it gradually. It contributes to greater temperature stability, prolonged thermal comfort and better energy utilization.
Air Control
Combustion air control system present in Romotop equipment, which regulates primary and secondary air through a single control. It allows adjusting the flame intensity, optimizing combustion efficiency, and keeping the glass cleaner, which simplifies the daily use of the equipment.
Ambient thermostat
Device that regulates the temperature of the space and controls the start and stop of the boiler. Allows programming to optimize energy consumption and maintain stable thermal comfort.
Anti-condensation valve
Valve that regulates the mixing of the thermal fluid to ensure a minimum return temperature to the boiler. Protects against corrosion, prevents internal condensation and increases the durability of the equipment.
Automatic air vent
Device that removes the air present in the thermal fluid of the heating system. Prevents noise, pump cavitation, oxidation and efficiency losses, and contributes to greater reliability and efficiency of the installation.
B
Bioethanol
Plant-based liquid fuel, obtained from renewable raw materials. Used in bioethanol fireplaces, it produces real flame without smoke, ash, or the need for a chimney. It is a clean, practical solution suitable for contemporary projects.
Biomass
A set of renewable organic materials, such as firewood or pellets, used for the production of thermal energy by combustion. It is a sustainable heating solution, with a low environmental impact and high energy efficiency.
Boiler
Wood-, pellet- or electric heating equipment that transfers the generated heat to a water circuit. It is used in central heating systems, radiators or underfloor heating.
Burner
Component where the controlled combustion of the fuel takes place, whether wood, pellets or bioethanol. An efficient burner ensures a stable flame, improved thermal efficiency and reduced emissions.
C
Calcium silicate
Lightweight, non-combustible and insulating material used in heat recuperators. It withstands high temperatures, protects the surrounding structures, improves thermal efficiency and enhances the safety of the installation.
Central heating (AC)
Heating system that produces heat in a central unit, such as a boiler, heat-recovery unit or heat pump, and distributes it to several rooms through radiators, radiant floor heating or air ducts. It allows a uniform temperature, greater energy efficiency and consistent thermal control throughout the home.
Chimney
Smoke evacuation duct for the fumes resulting from the combustion of wood or pellets. Usually made of stainless steel and circular in shape, it ensures safe extraction and proper draft of the equipment.
Chimney draft
Phenomenon that ensures the natural circulation of combustion gases. Adequate draft ensures efficient smoke evacuation, safety, and proper thermal performance of the stove.
Circulation pump
Device that ensures the circulation of hot water in the hydraulic circuit, and overcomes the pressure losses of the installation. Guarantees an efficient distribution of heat and greater comfort in central heating systems.
Closed expansion vessel
Pressurized vessel that absorbs variations in the fluid volume in the central heating system. Maintains stable pressure and protects the hydraulic circuit against overloads.
Combistato
Control device used in wood-burning equipment that activates the circulation pump when the temperature reaches a predefined value, usually above 60 °C. It protects the system and optimizes operation.
Combustion
Fuel combustion process inside the equipment. Proper management of primary, secondary and tertiary air ensures greater thermal efficiency, lower pollutant emissions and better heat utilization.
Combustion air
Air necessary to ensure the proper combustion of the fuel in a wood or pellet heating appliance. An adequate supply improves thermal efficiency, reduces emissions and ensures safe and stable operation of the system.
Combustion gas
Mixture of gases produced during the combustion of fuel. They must be properly vented through the chimney to ensure greater safety and energy efficiency, as well as the proper operation of the system.
Combustion regulator
Device that controls the intake of air, oxygen, into the combustion chamber. It allows adjusting the intensity of the flame, optimizing thermal efficiency and reducing emissions in the heating system.
Comfortable Stoking
Rear wood-feeding system that allows loading and cleaning the equipment outside the living area. It increases comfort, reduces dirt in the space, and improves the daily use experience.
Complete burn
Process in which the fuel is completely consumed, allowing maximum energy utilization and reduction of waste. It depends on the proper management of primary, secondary, and tertiary air in the combustion system.
Convection
Process of heat transfer through the movement of heated air. The hot air rises and is distributed throughout the space, and it can occur naturally or with assisted ventilation.
D
Decompression grilles
Components installed around the recuperator to release accumulated hot air. They prevent overheating and protect surrounding materials, as well as ensure the safe circulation of air.
Deflector
Internal component that guides the combustion gases and extends their path in the chamber. It increases thermal efficiency, improves combustion, and protects the upper areas of the equipment.
Degree of insulation
Factor that should be considered in the sizing of the heating system. It assesses the level of insulation of the dwelling and the climatic conditions of the area, and thus influences the required power of the equipment.
Differential thermostat
Device that compares the temperatures between two points of the system and activates or deactivates the equipment according to the defined differential. It is essential in solar circuits or in systems with a buffer tank.
Differential thermostat with programmable hysteresis
Advanced version with adjustable differential, usually between 15 °C and 20 °C. Reduces unnecessary operating cycles and improves the stability and durability of the installation.
Domestic hot water storage tank
Storage tank that stores heat for the production of Domestic Hot Water, DHW. Ensures the availability of hot water with greater stability and improved energy efficiency.
Double Spin
Combustion gas management system developed by Romotop. It optimizes the path of the flue gases inside the appliance, improves thermal efficiency and reduces emissions by promoting cleaner combustion and a lower environmental impact.
Drain valve
Ball valve that allows draining the thermal fluid from the equipment or the hydraulic circuit. It facilitates maintenance operations and technical interventions.
E
EAI - Outside air intake
System that ensures the direct supply of outside air for combustion. Improves efficiency, flame stability and performance in well-insulated dwellings or in passive houses.
Ecodesign Standard
European regulation that establishes the minimum requirements for energy efficiency and the maximum emission limits for heating equipment. It ensures higher thermal efficiency, lower fuel consumption and a reduction in environmental impact.
Electric
Heating system that uses electrical energy to generate heat, without resorting to combustion. Includes electric fireplaces, electric boilers or auxiliary systems, being a practical solution with simplified installation.
Electrical system 24 Volt
Low-voltage technology applied to heating equipment. Reduces electrical consumption, increases energy efficiency, and enhances operational safety.
Emissions level
Quantity of particles and gases released during the combustion process. Equipment with reduced emissions ensure greater efficiency, lower pollution and compliance with European environmental standards.
EV - Ventilated equipment
Equipment that incorporates a fan to force the circulation of hot air. It allows faster heating and enables the distribution of heat to other rooms.
F
False air intake
Uncontrolled air ingress caused by airtightness failures or incorrect connections. It compromises combustion, reduces efficiency and can affect safety and thermal performance.
Firewood
Solid fuel of vegetable origin used in biomass heating systems. It should have a moisture content between 15% and 20% to ensure efficient combustion, lower smoke emissions and better thermal efficiency.
Fuel
Material used to generate thermal energy by combustion, such as firewood, pellets, or bioethanol. It must be compatible with the equipment to ensure efficiency, safety, and proper performance.
G
Grill
Element used in heating systems to allow the entry or exit of air. It facilitates ventilation and heat distribution, and contributes to efficient operation.
Grog
Refractory ceramic material applied in the combustion chamber of recuperators and salamanders. It improves thermal stability, optimizes combustion and contributes to greater accumulation and gradual release of heat.
H
Heat exchanger
Component that transfers heat between two media without direct contact. In heating systems, it allows the energy from combustion to be used to heat air or water, increasing the efficiency and thermal utilization of the equipment.
Heat sinks
Elements intended to release the heat produced by fireplace inserts, wood stoves, or boilers. They can take various configurations, the radiator being the most common, and contribute to the safe and controlled distribution of heat.
Heat wave (thermal radiation)
Heat transfer in the form of radiation, without the need for air movement. Provides immediate comfort by directly heating the people and objects in the surrounding space.
Heating zone
Area or compartment individually controlled in a central or local heating system. It allows autonomous temperature management, greater control over consumption and improved energy efficiency.
Hermetic Technology (Safe Heating Technology)
Heating technology sealed from the interior space, which uses combustion air from the outside. It enhances safety, improves energy efficiency and is especially suitable for well-insulated dwellings or for those with high airtightness.
Hydraulic circuit
Set of components through which water circulates in a heating system, including piping, pumps, buffer tank and thermal accumulator. It is responsible for the distribution and control of the heat in the installation.
I
Indoor unit (HVAC)
Component installed inside the building in air conditioning or heat pump systems. It is responsible for distributing the conditioned air and for controlling the ambient temperature.
Inertia tank
Reservoir that accumulates thermal energy produced by boilers or hydraulic recuperators. It allows storing the heat and distributing it gradually to the central heating circuit, which increases thermal stability and energy efficiency.
Isolated chimney
Double-walled stainless steel flue with internal insulation, usually rock wool. Reduces heat loss, improves draft and enhances the safety of the installation.

K
kW (kilowatt)
Thermal power unit. It is used in the sizing of boilers, heat-recovery units, wood stoves and heat pumps, depending on the area and the thermal requirements of the space.
kWh (kilowatt-hour)
Unit that measures the energy consumed or produced over time. Allows calculating operating costs and comparing the efficiency between different heating systems.

Local heating (AL)
Heating system that operates only in the room where the equipment is installed, such as a stove or fireplace insert. Provides immediate, concentrated heat, being suitable for specific spaces or as a complement to central heating.
Low-energy houses (houses with low energy consumption)
Homes with high airtightness and reduced thermal losses. They require efficient heating equipment, with an external air intake, that do not use indoor oxygen and maintain adequate performance with a lower installed power.
M
Mammoth (Romotop accumulation system)
Thermal storage technology that absorbs excess heat during combustion and releases it gradually after the fire has been extinguished. Suitable for energy-efficient homes, it increases comfort, improves thermal stability, and optimizes energy utilization.
Mixing valve
Component that mixes hot water coming from the boiler with return water. It allows adjusting the supply temperature to the central heating system, which ensures balanced operation.
Moisture content
Percentage of water present in firewood or pellets. It directly influences combustion efficiency, thermal efficiency and the level of emissions of the equipment.
Motorized 3-way valve
Device that directs the thermal fluid according to the defined priority, such as domestic hot water (DHW) heating or central heating.
N
Nominal production
Thermal energy produced by the equipment under the conditions defined by the manufacturer. It indicates the expected performance and allows comparing heating solutions based on objective technical criteria.
Nominal thermal power
Power value that the equipment provides continuously under normal operating conditions. It constitutes a technical reference for proper sizing and to ensure efficient and safe thermal comfort.
O
Open vase
Device that compensates for the thermal expansion of the fluid, by maintaining direct contact with the outside air. Allows the free expansion of water in the heating system.
Outdoor unit (HVAC)
Component installed on the exterior of the building that performs heat exchange with the environment. It works together with the indoor unit to ensure efficient heating or cooling.
Oxygen for combustion
Essential element in the process of burning wood or pellets. An adequate supply of oxygen allows complete combustion, greater thermal efficiency and reduction of residues and emissions.
P
Passive houses
Buildings designed to minimize heating and cooling needs, through high thermal insulation, airtightness, and controlled ventilation. They ensure greater thermal comfort with reduced energy consumption.
Pellets
Biomass fuel in the form of small cylinders of pressed wood. It is used in pellet heating systems, has a reduced moisture content, between 5% and 8%, and ensures efficient combustion, high thermal efficiency, as well as reduced emissions.
Power
Amount of heat generated by a heating device and transmitted to the ambient air, in the case of local heating, or to the hydraulic installation, in the case of central heating. It is critical for the correct sizing of the system and for ensuring adequate thermal comfort.
Pressure safety valve
Device that opens automatically when the pressure exceeds the defined limit. Prevents damage to the hydraulic system and enhances the safety of the installation.
Pressure sensor
Device that measures the pressure of gases or liquids and converts that value into an electrical signal. In heating systems, it ensures control and safety in the operation of the circuit.
Primary air
Air introduced at the base of the combustion chamber, essential for starting and sustaining the fire. Its control influences the intensity of the flame, fuel consumption and the performance of the equipment.
R
Radiation
Form of heat transfer through thermal waves, without direct contact or air circulation. It provides immediate warming of people and surfaces, which increases the feeling of thermal comfort.
Recuperator
Wood or pellet heating equipment designed for recessed wall installation. Enables architectural integration, high thermal efficiency and better heat utilization compared to open fireplaces.
S
Secondary air
Air introduced at the top of the combustion chamber to burn gases not consumed in the initial phase of combustion. Improves energy efficiency, reduces emissions and contributes to keeping the glass cleaner.
Silent Lift Sliding Door
Silent sliding door system, with high-quality components. Facilitates use, improves sealing and enhances comfort and safety in the equipment.
SILENT+
Technology developed to reduce the operating noise of the equipment. Improves acoustic comfort without compromising the thermal performance of the heating system.
Soot
Carbonaceous residue resulting from incomplete combustion. Its accumulation reduces the equipment's efficiency, soils the glass, and can increase the risk of chimney fire.
Stove
Independent-installation wood or pellet heating equipment, stand-alone type. Suitable for local heating, as it combines thermal efficiency, ease of installation and aesthetic versatility.
T
Technical area
Space reserved for the installation of equipment such as boilers, inertia tanks or heat pumps. It must ensure adequate conditions of safety, ventilation and accessibility for maintenance.
Tertiary air
Additional air introduced in the final stage of combustion to complete the combustion of residual gases. It contributes to greater thermal efficiency, lower particulate emissions and better fuel utilization.
Thermal inertia
The capacity of a material or system to store heat and release it gradually over time. Greater thermal inertia translates into greater temperature stability, reduced thermal variation, and improved heating efficiency.
Thermal insulation
Set of materials and construction solutions that reduce heat losses between the interior and the exterior of a building. Good insulation improves the energy performance of the dwelling, reduces consumption, and increases thermal comfort.
Thermal safety valve
Valve that operates when the temperature exceeds the allowable value. Prevents overheating and protects the equipment and the circuit.
Thermostat with hysteresis
Thermostat with programmable temperature differential, applied to inertia tanks or thermal storage tanks. Prevents frequent start-ups and contributes to greater system efficiency.
Triple Pass
Patented triple-pass system for combustion gases through the water heat exchanger. Increases heat transfer and can raise the equipment's efficiency by up to about 10%.
U
Underfloor heating controller
Electronic device that regulates underfloor heating zones. It receives ambient temperature information and controls the zone valves, adjusting the water flow according to the set value.
V
Ventilated
Designation applied to fireplace inserts or stoves with integrated fans. It speeds up the circulation of hot air and improves thermal distribution in the space.
Ventilation and inspection openings
Elements integrated into the structure of the fireplace or the insert that allow air circulation and technical access to the interior. They ensure adequate ventilation, prevent overheating, and facilitate maintenance, inspection, and verification of safety conditions.
Vermiculite
Expanded natural mineral, lightweight and non-combustible, used as thermal insulation in heat recovery units. It withstands high temperatures and contributes to greater efficiency and safety of the equipment.
VERTICAL AIR® (patent)
Patented system that optimizes the vertical circulation of hot air and promotes a more uniform distribution of heat to ensure greater thermal comfort in the heated space.
Volume
Measurement of the space occupied by a body, expressed in cubic meters, m³. It is used in the sizing calculation of heating systems and influences the required power.
W
Water Jacket (water chamber)
Metallic structure that surrounds the combustion chamber in boilers or hydraulic recuperators. It allows transferring the heat generated to the water of the central heating circuit, which increases the thermal efficiency of the equipment.
Watt (W)
Unit of power measurement in the International System. In heating systems, it indicates the amount of thermal energy produced or consumed per second, serving as the basis for calculating equipment performance.
X
XML technical (digital documentation)
Structured digital format used to organize the technical data of products. It facilitates integration into systems, platforms or search engines, and ensures the consistency and reliability of the technical information.
XPS (extruded polystyrene)
Thermal insulating material with high mechanical strength and low water absorption. It is used in construction to improve the building's energy performance and reduce heat losses.
Y
Y-Connector (Y connection)
Connecting piece used in ducts or piping to split or join flows of air or smoke. It is used in ventilation and evacuation systems, and guarantees the efficient transition between branches.
Yield (thermal efficiency)
Technical term that indicates the efficiency in converting the energy of the fuel into useful heat. The higher the thermal efficiency, the lower the energy waste and the greater the utilization of the fuel.
